I had to write about this even though I’ve already posted today.

J (our 4th son ~ age 3) takes naps. Naps are and always have been my life line to sanity! They are absolutely necessary and something that the kids know they can’t get out of. With new twins, J’s schedule got a bit messed up over the summer. Thankfully with C (Son1) and the other older boyz at home I didn’t have to stress about it too much. Now with school back in session he’s on a better schedule again.

He is still strong willed and will be defiant if he feels it necessary. Today was one of those days. He chose to refuse to go to bed while I was feeding the babies. He is aware of a bit of helplessness on my part if he decides to act out when I am buried under the twinfants. We are trying to be very consistent, but sometimes there is only so much you can do!

He came out of his room and laid his head on his dad’s chair across the room from where I was with the babies. He was quiet, so I continued to finish up the task at hand watching him every few minutes. After about 15 minutes I noticed that he hadn’t moved at all. Put the babies down for a nap and realized . . . .

HE WAS ASLEEP STANDING UP WITH HIS HEAD ON HIS DAD’S CHAIR!

Of all things! I was shocked to say the least. I’ve had a child fall asleep in a high chair at the dinner table before, and one fall asleep in the exersaucer before, but never standing up. Needless to say, I carried him to bed and laughed while I cleaned up lunch.

What a funny kid ~ it is far more worth it to him to not be in bed even if it means falling asleep in such an awkward and uncomfortable position. Our job as the parents of such a strong boy is to help him use that strength of will for good not evil ;0)

Have a Blessed Day!
