Well… I started a few this year with my boyfriend. It’s one I plan on continuing no matter who I’m with.

#1: The lighting of the lights at the Brown Palace, a historic hotel here in Denver. It was wonderful, festive and a great time. Perhaps I will even make reservations for a hotel room or dinner at the restaurant next year.. add to the feel of the year!

#2: Go cut down a real Christmas tree. It was wonderfully snowy, and a great time, even though we got stuck in the snow and it took us over an hour to get out… it was a wonderful memory.

Now… with my kids.. I have different changes.

Baby #5 was born on Christmas day, so that adds a whole new dynamic to the holiday. She gets her own tree (Birthday tree) that is decorated in ONLY pink things and none of them can look Christmasy.. she has her birthday gifts under HER tree wrapped in pink paper. SHE opens gifts first before any of us even get a stocking. She also gets a pretty new birthday dress.

Santa (affectionately called The Fat Man) brings less candy and more things like… eyelash curlers (for my 17 year old) and CDs (for my 13 and 14 year old). He’s adapting to times….

Now.. my girlfriend, Gretchen, and I spend one day during December out on the town. We go to 16th street mall, walk around, and enjoy our time together without kids, husbands or any other distractions. It is one of my favorite new memories as and adult.. for me.

We have always loved the holiday season, so I hope that gets passed on to all of my children!

With three boys of my own I can hold my own at the snack table! My elbows have been sharpened, Gentlemen! But, I must mention that the Twinadoes (LOVE that) have me a bit intimidated!
    LOL!
    I love the wreath tradition.
Grab two of those mint mochas and come on over after the boys are in bed. :)

I’m so glad I’m not the only one with a half-decorated tree. My youngest (& last) is 1.5 yrs old so I’m hoping in another 2 years we can start decorating the entire tree again! Maybe I’ll even be able to put the presents under it before Christmas Day also.

hahahaha I remember those days. Yes, they won’t always un-decorate your tree! I actually took the advice of a friend and put the tree INSIDE the playpen. The son could see but couldn’t touch :-) Did the same when our daughter was a toddler.

Will look forward to seeing the wreath in all its glory in a future post!
