    Well, I\\\’m jealous of the iPhone, first of all. :) I have AT&T but since I\\\’m not eligible for an equipment upgrade until July, I have to wait (or spend twice as much on the phone).

    I absolutely love our camcorder – it\\\’s the JVC Everio 330. I love our Canon digital camera too – although it\\\’s a bit outdated now. I\\\’m saving up for a newer version. :)

    Sorry about the technology woes. I have had this silly laptop for five years and I desperately need a new one. Sigh.

    I have a Sony laptop (VAio from a couple years ago). I got it from an independent dealer who asked good questions about everything I use it for and then put together the best package for me. I also bought the extended warranty and it definitely paid for itself in replaced keyboards (2x), new motherboard and new hard drive. (Did you know something as minor as a missing key on the keypad allows static electricity to get inside the electronics and cause problems? Found that one out the hard way.) Also found that overheating is the source of many problems, so I got (for my birthday–thanks Mom) a Belkin laptop thingy that keeps my lap cool and prevents it from getting too hot from being left to sit on the sofa, etc. (Target has them for around $20). Even though mine has been in the shop too much for the past year, I think I’ve learned a lot about what gets it there and how to avoid some of those things so I won’t be without it so much.

    I have a Canon A620; it’s an older model, but I would totally get the same one again. It does take short video clips, it has manual modes if you want to get fancy with stuff, but auto works well in a pinch. It also allows you to use other Canon lenses which is unusual for what people would consider a “point and shoot.”

    For my next technology investment, I’m hoping to get an Acer Aspire One. It’s a mini-laptop that allows you to access the internet, do email, etc. There are wordprocessing and other programs that interface with Windows stuff. I think it will be great for something to take along when I want to do some computing at the coffee shop but really don’t want to keep dragging my ‘good’ (and big) laptop around. It might be a good solution for your kids. Best thing? It costs under $350! (And comes in cool colors.) I think it will also be a good backup for those times the laptop does end up in the shop or something.

    What exactly is the issue you’re having with getting the video from your camera onto your computer? Is it just not compatible, or are you missing the cable that connects to the computer (usually a usb cable these days)?

    The computer simply doesn’t have a fire wire connection and I don’t have the adapter. Not a huge fix to most people, but for me it’s just one more thing. For video my camera doesn’t connect with a usb cable.
