I have a VERY fun invitation to extend to all of you, but I really wanted to share something with all of you while before I clue you in…I have wanted to sponsor a child for a very long time, and with our three oldest children in their tweens and teens NOW seemed like the perfect time. A couple of weeks ago though, the final decision came in an unusual way…a school project my oldest son did about Child Soldiers in Africa.
As a young teenage boy living in a free country, he’s fascinated by war and in his World Civilization class they had been studying Africa for a long time. They were asked to create a power point presentation on a topic taking place in Africa and were given a long list of choices. When my son came home and told me he had chosen Child Soldiers, I have to admit I really did try to dissuade him from that topic.
As we went through the process to gather information and create his presentation however, I was shocked (though I’m sure I shouldn’t have been) to discover that not only is World Vision one of the organizations that is hard at work to end the use of children as soldiers, but they are going above and beyond to help former child soldiers, create conditions that make it less likely for children to be taken in the first place and much much more! Check out www.SeekJustice.org!
Now for the fun part…..
In about a week and a half a bunch of mom bloggers in Washington State will be converging upon World Vision’s Federal Way Headquarters. If you live (or know someone who does) close enough to attend, I want to hear from you!
It will be a very fun afternoon of food, gabbing, learning, gabbing, touring, gabbing and offering opinions…it doesn’t get better than that! If you would like to attend, please feel free to email me at 5minutesforfaith at gmail dot com (put World Vision MeetUp in the subject line) with your blog address and where you live. Then I’ll get back to you with your official invitation. (read on for more details on how you can get involved even if you don’t live in the area … and some exciting resources that are coming our way!)
If you don’t live near enough to attend, please feel free to let the world know about it! Tweets and blog posts are super cool ways to let your readers who might live in the area know about the event. We just really want any mom bloggers who would like to attend to have the opportunity.
If you want to learn more about World Vision, just visit www.WorldVision.com/orphans.
The Social Media team at World Vision has been hard at work creating some amazing blogging resources JUST for mom bloggers!!! They aren’t quite ready yet, but if you’d like to get connected with World Vision as a Mommy Blogger, feel free to let me know by filling out my contact form with any questions you may have, your blog name and address and your best email and I’ll get back to you as soon as everything is all setup.
