Scrap Happy – Photo Masks Tip

It’s quickly turning into one of those weeks. Not horrible, but not great either. The kind of week where time is ultra limited and tiredness is the name of the game. Sooo, because we’re only at Tuesday of that particular type of week, I’m going to switch things up a little.

Today, I’m going to share my digi scrap layout and tip of the week. This week’s tip is just a few words about Photo Masks. First though, the layout…

The photo on the top uses a photo mask.  This one I believe is by Royanna Fritschmann of Divine Digital, but it’s from her Commercial line up.  You can get photo masks from tons of designers througout the digi scrap world online.  Some of them are for personal use only and others are commercial use, giving those of us who like to go outside the box a bit a little more freedom.

Here’s another Layout using a photomask…

The trick with photo masks is learning how to use them with your particular program.  I had to learn the hard way with Corel’s Paint Shop Pro Photo (I have version X2).  With that program, you basically have to choose the image you want in the main color pallette, then you “fill” the mask with the image.  It takes a little doing depending on the difference in size from the photo to the mask, so you may need to change the size percentage of the image in the pallette area, but it works if that’s the program you have.

After all of that though, I got the very simple and inexpensive Adobe Photoshop Elements (version 7).  With this program, all you do is drag the edited image you want to use over the mask, position it where you want it to go, resize if necessary, then hit Ctrl+g.  Thats it!  Insanely easy.  Buy it at Costco if you don’t have a good image editing program.

Happy Scrapping!
