Thursday – October 6, 2005 – 18 Weeks Along
Went to see the OB today. My blood pressure was fine, so far I have gained a total of 14 lbs. I would like to stay on track to gain only 30 – 35 lbs, but I don’t know how possible that is. Since I’ve gained 14 lbs in almost 18 weeks, I guess that’s not too bad, especially considering I gained 10 of that in the first 6 weeks.
Dr Smith asked if I was feeling movement – I told her I feel baby A fairly regularly, but rarely feel baby B; and she asked how I’m feeling. I really don’t have any valid issues to complain about, so I figure I’d better wait until I do to do too much complaining.
She said that the last ultrasound looks good, they are pretty much the same size. They would like to see them continue to grow at the same rate, but since we don’t know if they’re fraternal or identical we’ll see. If they’re fraternal, there’s a chance that they’d begin growing at different rates naturally as in any single pregnancy.
She also said that since I’ve had such big babies before my uterus will probably stretch with less complications. The reason for most preterm labor problems with twins is that the uterus reaches the size it would normally be at 40 weeks with a singleton and decides it must be done. She said if I can get past 32 weeks she’ll be happy. I told her I was going for 36 weeks and she said she’d be THRILLED if I got that far. I told her of a conversation hubby and I had earlier when I told him I wanted to reach at least 36 weeks but that I would probably be begging to get them out about then. Dr. Smith said that he’ll probably want them out just as much since he will be living with my miserable self. Of course there’s no way to know what will actually happen yet so we’ll see.
I wanted to know the procedure if I thought there was a serious problem and she said to call triage at the birth center. If I just have questions call the office. My records will be at the birth center as of 21 weeks.
She was very happy (dare I say even impressed) with how everything is going! Says I’m easy (let’s hope it stays that way!) and I’ll see her in one month. She still wants to make sure the babies are monitored by ultrasound monthly so I have to call tomorrow to set them up for November and December. My next OB appointment is November 3rd at 10:40am (Thurs) I’ll be 21 1/2 weeks.
My ultrasound is coming up next Friday (Nov. 14th) so we’ll se how that goes . . .
