You may be wondering about the eating habits of growing boys. Not so much the manners part of it but the quantity and types of food they eat. I have been making a few observations recently that you may find interesting.
As toddlers and preschoolers our boyz tend to be pretty picky eaters. J qualifies in the sense that he is only interested in eating what he wants when he wants it. He likes to eat far more than the other boyz did at his age, which is fairly apparent to most who know him, but he is still very selective. N (Son3), our 7 year old has never liked eating. He thinks he is allergic to rice (but will eat cold rice cereal gladly, go figure) and seems to be a self-proclaimed vegetarian. Not that it would be a major problem, but he’s such a little guy we hate to see him shun any food!
I’ve really been noticing our oldest 2 lately though, as they love to plow through the food as quickly as possible and seem to have little regard for appropriate quantities. Our oldest is almost 11 ~ tall for his age, looks lke a bean pole, but is surprisingly like a brick when you actually put him on a scale. He will eat anything you put in front of him! I mean anything ~ whether he really likes it or not, and he’ll often want more about an hour later. Our 8 year old isn’t quite to that stage, but he’ll try anything you put in front of him. If he approves he will eat a couple of helpings, but if he doesn’t approve he’ll just eat what’s necessary to get rid of the hunger and move on.
My husband and I realize that in the next few years our food bill will rise significantly! Feel free to contribute to the cause by shopping with me whenever possible.
More to come . . .
