Well, Christmas is behind us and we now look forward to 2007 which is quickly approaching. Do you make New Years’ resolutions? I’m not necessarily a huge fan of them as I find that they are all too quickly forgotten and often we “resolve” to do things that sound good but aren’t very realistic for our life. I do think it is a good time to reflect on the past year’s successes and failures and plan for the year ahead ~ setting goals: for our personal well being (spiritual, physical & mental health); our family members’ needs (school, work, appointments, sports); and general planning for the next year (financial, household, etc.)
A few of my thoughts as I look back at 2006:
As I look to the new year I have mixed feelings. This year went so quickly and I dislike the feeling that I don’t have anything to show for one entire year.
~Yes, we accomplished a lot around our property, adding a basketball court and a garage, but our goal was to complete the basement too and that is barely started.
~ The boys are all alive and fairly well, although the holiday season has brought with it much illness for our entire family and everyone is still recovering!
~ I survived the prematurity and newborn needs of twin boys while trying to keep everything going for the rest of the gang. I’m not saying I did it well, but here we are.
Looking ahead to 2007 (reflections on what I’d like to work on):
- I know that as moms we tend to be much too hard on ourselves ~ expecting way more of ourselves than reality will allow ~ yet even this knowledge doesn’t keep me from doing it.
- I also know that mom’s need to take care of themselves (mentally, spiritually and physically) in order to take good care of their family, again, this knowledge doesn’t help me to keep my priorities straight.
- I would like to be a little more aware and maybe insightful even when it comes to prime opportunities where I can gently bring Christ into a conversation, situation or need. For some this is a “no brainer”, but for me this requires effort. When my sons need something I need to remember to sit with them and help them bring that need before the Lord. When something exciting happens to them I need to encourage them to thank the Lord for the blessings we receive. It is in the little things every day that they learn what it is to truly believe, trust and LIVE their faith in Christ. In fact I would say that this is my number one goal for this coming year.
- I would like to get out with my hubby a little more often! Maybe even begin going on dates without the babies along 😉
- ORGANIZATION! I plan on getting our tiny little house that is FILLED with people and tons of stuff under control. Chaos of the things in our household needs to LEAVE, then we can work on the people (hee hee).
- Now that the babies are getting close to 1 year, I’d like to begin family night again once a week.
This ends my thoughts for now ~ though I may add to it all later. I have a “Big Idea” that I will be posting about later since it is really it’s own subject.
Blessings to all in the New Year!!!!!!!!!
