My day has been interesting! Every day is interesting, but today had a moment that I have to share!
With 6 boys I find myself often balancing on that proverbial edge between sanity & well – looney Anyway, I finally felt I had a moment to go online and check my email, after all internet businesses don’t sleep and need to be maintained.
I had my mocha ready, my laptop on a table next to me, both babies were sitting on my lap and my 3 year old, J – Son4, was happily painting my toenails (and my feet) a gorgeous shade of white ~ and I didn’t care! The babies weren’t positive that they liked this situation. As they both sat on my lap eating Veggie Puffs, E decided to fuss a bit, so I threw him over my shoulder, talking to him and patting him on the back. All the while my feet are getting whiter (so is J’s hair, shirt and legs ~ oddly, I still didn’t care!), I’m turning on the computer and all of the sudden my freshly made (but not hot) mocha is in E’s hand splattering all down the table, floor and couch. Not on anyone, just on everything around me ~ and yet I somehow find myself with a grin on my face beginning to chuckle over the whole incident.
Then begins the clean up! Both babies are now furious as I set them in the playpen with toys to try to keep them entertained in order to clean up the brown sludge now sliding down the front of the couch. At first J is helping me clean up, then as I’m finishing I notice that the white toenail polish is beginning to grace the bottom of the exersaucer that he has tipped on it’s side . . . . . . . . . . . . . You get the picture!
If nothing else this story may simply prove to you once and for all one of many things: your life is very organized, you aren’t nearly as crazy as you thought (or even just that there’s someone crazier than you), etc.
I have to say that today has been particularly chaotic. I strive daily for simplicity & peace in my home, this has to be a very poignant example of learning to “go with the flow” ~ I guess.
Disclaimer: I consider my boys a huge blessing ~ my toddler doesn’t normally have access to toenail polish ~ my twins have NEVER had access to my coffee mug.
Just a side note; as I’m writing this I had one twin (M) sleeping in a crib, my toddler in his room to begin a nap, nursing the other twin (E), finally got E to sleep and M woke up, put E to bed, nursed M, he’s back to sleep, discovered my toddler is stinky and trying to throw toys out his window, Changed Toddler, Disposed of a diaper that I’m positive should be considered Nuclear Waste, sit back down to finish posting and notice that my arm is still sticky from above mentioned incident, notice that foot is no longer brown from mocha but still has distinctly white polish drawings all over it, oh, and the UPS guy just delivered a 50 lb box of food so woohoo we’ll have a great dinner! Another 20 minutes in my life ~ just in case you needed more proof!
Truly,
~Shera~
