Recently I have been writing a series of articles on Boys and the Media Influence. So I was really amused when the Disney Channel came out with Johnny Kapahala Back on Board (their sequel to Johnny Tsunami) this weekend. We liked the first one and we found it to be a fun, clean enjoyable family time so we all thought it was fun that they were coming out with a second.
We weren’t disappointed. We had fun watching all of the adventures and the story line was good too – we watched as a very angry young man came to love an appreciate his family. But the biggest hit of the entire movie was . . . the Dirt Boarding (also known as Mountain Boarding). My children have decided that is THE thing to do and have long drawn out explanations as to why they NEED to own dirt boards.
Truth be told, hubby and I wish we would have known about them earlier! We live in the country and our land is beautiful but kind of a rolling hill and regular skateboards just don’t cut it. We did put in a basketball court for them last summer, but it isn’t a very large area for 4 boys to ride (yup even Sir Lion likes to try a little boarding). So these boards actually seem like they’d be a lot of fun. For now they are too expensive, but it’s something to keep in mind for birthdays I guess.
