Ok, I’m the kind of mom who usually gets up a little bit before my kids ~ it’s simply a sanity thing! Well today the babies woke up before 6am and were ready to get up, I laid there hoping that maybe they would go back to sleep, then the 3 year old comes into my room then the 8 year old gets the babies up to play then the 7 year old is out playing with the babies and the 11 year old is in the shower BEFORE ME! AAAAAAAAAH! I actually found myself feeling like “Mom, can’t I just sleep for 10 more minutes”. So I was out of bed before my alarm even went off for the day – Ugh, where’s that cup of coffee! Trying to look like I’m not too sleepy and even trying not to be overly grumpy. But the truth of the matter is I like my little routine and don’t like it messed with. Maybe I have it too good . . . I don’t know, all I do know is that I’m not in the habit of my house getting up and going without me being the one prodding them to get started for the day! The biggest problem is that I often end up feeling like I’m playing catch up for the rest of the day when it begins like this.
Since many of you are wondering, here’s a typical morning in our household: My alarm goes off at 6:30am I get up about 6:45am get up one of the boys to keep an eye on the babies (who usually get up with me) and I take my shower. Our oldest takes his shower right after me (around 7am) – did I mention that we only have one bathroom for the 8 of us? Haha! Anyway – I begin preparing breakfast for all 6 boyz and lunch for the 3 in school. They finish getting ready for school, pack their lunches and as a result of many difficult mornings they are required to come to the breakfast table with their socks and shoes on. I begin giving warnings at least 10 minutes before they have to be outside for the bus. So at 7:40am they need to be finishing up breakfast by 7:45am they need to be gathering their lunches, backpacks and coats and heading to the door at 7:50am it’s time for them to head out to the driveway to wait for the bus. We are VERY fortunate and the bus picks them up right outside the house. My morning doesn’t end here of course, but that is the before 8am routine!
I will post a general idea of our entire day another time.
