Easter is such a wonderful holiday! I have many great memories of Easter egg hunts, beautiful Easter dresses and hats, and big family get-togethers. Let’s face it, as a child we really don’t understand the significance of this wonderful holiday!
From a religious standpoint I am very thankful for Easter and a bit saddened that it gets lost in the midst of other events. After all isn’t it the most wonderful thing ever? I mean without Easter and our Blessed Savior’s sacrifice where would we be? You know the answer! Christmas has become a much more popular holiday because of all of the commercialism – and again I find the significance being buried amongst all of the gifts. The birth of our Savior is indeed a great event, but the sacrifice and resurrection are what gives us hope and a future! I will simply delight in this momentous Holiday, thanking and praising my Glorious Savior for the ultimate Sacrifice He made for me – little insignificant me!
From a parental standpoint I am very thankful that I am not bound to purchase as much! A simple basket of fun things for each child and ten zillion eggs stuffed with various candy and other things for the egg hunt! I do long for them to fully understand the true Gift of Easter, but I realize that will come in time! I have to say though that lately the oldest two have been picking up a lot more during Sunday School than I thought! It is actually becoming inscribed in their minds and on their hearts! I am thrilled, but have to say that the moments they choose to share their vast insights are very interesting – usually at the dinner table and sometimes 7 & 8 year old theology needs some serious correction (the 11 year old seems to get it more)!
From a homemaker’s standpoint I am thankful that we are going to my parent’s house and the chaos can reign supreme there – not here in my teeny tiny abode! Pathetic thing to be thankful for, but there it is.
