When I was a teenager there came a very pivotal moment where I realized that in order to move forward into a healthy adulthood I needed to know why I believed what I had always believed. This was a big deal for me, I had been living my faith through my parents all my life. What they believed was enough – until then. Suddenly that was a cop out and I needed something a little more solid to go on for my own future. So began a learning period where I was delving into the Bible and truths that I had never understood for myself.
The thing is this is a process that I don’t thing ever really ends! Although I am solid in what I believe and why there is always a study going on! I love to look at scripture in a whole new way – a personal way! It becomes more real that way. Bible studies are great too, don’t get me wrong, but there is something deeply satisfying about going into a section of scripture and coming out with a personal application. I encourage you to give it a try if you haven’t yet.
Find a section of scripture you want to read – even just one chapter is fine! Pray beforehand that God will open your heart and speak to you through your reading. Then as you are reading take note of a scripture or thought that stands out to you. Afterward, jot down the scripture and your thoughts and maybe even another prayer personally applying that thought to your life that day. You will feel refreshed and fed!
