Having the Motivation for Proper Body Care
I have to admit . . . I actually chuckled when I read the title of this chapter. How could a mom of 6 boys help it? (she can’t!) Boys are a constant challenge in the area of body care and hygiene! Boys between the ages of 9 and 11 in particular are an interesting breed!
The chapter actually ended up being more about eating healthy and not falling into the trap of eating disorders, but I still chuckle when I read the title!
I appreciate that I have the kind of relationships with my sons that I can say “hey, do you need me to pick up some deodorant for you?” or ask them what other hygiene needs they may have. I hope and pray that this relationship remains this way into their teen years. I truly believe that this is the key area where we as parents can gain a great amount of our sons’ (and daughters’) trust! This trust gives us the ability later on to speak into other very important areas of their life and future! So, I will continue on trying to build that trust up more and more.
Oh, and by the way, for those of you who are worried that they will never learn to care for themselves (or care to), believe it or not they do. It really is as if one morning they wake up and decide “hmmm, I think I’m going to fix my hair every day now.” It doesn’t mean things are perfect or that I don’t have to give (way too many) reminders to pleeeeeease go put on deodorant, but it is definitely a HUGE step in the right direction!
Thoughts for the journey:
“Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from god, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
